Diesel’s Story

We would like to introduce you all to Diesel!

Diesel is a 2 year old spunky Labrador who presented to Dr. Leguizamo on January 17th with a 2 day history of vomiting. It appears this began after he was caught sneaking into the trash can. You see, Diesel has a birthday coming up, and he just wanted to treat himself to the contents of the garbage.

Upon examination, his abdomen was quite tense and painful. His parents and Dr. Leguizamo were both concerned about the possibility of a foreign body, as he is a repeat offender. (He has already had part of a baseball removed from his belly!) He was admitted to our hospital and immediately started on IV fluids for rehydration. He was given an injection for nausea, lab work was done to check organ functions and blood counts, and the x-rays taken showed a “bunching” pattern. This type of pattern is unfortunately consistent with a foreign object inside the body.

After speaking to Diesel’s parents, he was prepped and taken into surgery by Dr. Spaur. She was able to locate and remove the remnants of the garbage. Thankfully, she found no serious tissue damage from the foreign body, and he returned home the very next day.

Diesel is now back to his hyper and crazy self, and his parents are now the proud owners of a new puppy-safe trash can!
