Preventative care is important for the long-term health of your pet! But what is preventative care visit? Preventative care is not only your pets’ annual vaccines, but also an opportunity to talk about ways to keep your pet healthy year-round. Underwater treadmill is great for patients that need a low impact high resistance form of therapy.
Many of Hawthorne’s patients use the underwater treadmill after having surgery, to help reduce inflammation, and for strength building when limping.
A rehab consultation with a HAH veterinarian will give us the information we need to build a therapy plan that is right for your pet. After a physical examination, the doctor will give recommendations on at-home exercises or restrictions, and a plan for underwater treadmill therapy. The plan will include the number of sessions that are recommended, the speed at which your pet will walk, and the height of the water to give your pet the right amount of resistance.
Hawthorne’s surgical department not only offers an array of procedures but ensures that your pet is safe and comfortable during their surgical experience. Along with our routine surgeries such as spays, neuters, and dentals, we also offer advanced procedures. These advanced procedures include:
- Tumor removals
- Cranial cruciate repair (CCL)
- Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO)
- Perineal Urethrostomy
X-Rays can be very helpful in determining a number of problems that may be occurring with your pet.
Hawthorne’s digital radiology not only lessens the nurse’s and patient’s exposure to radiation, but it also takes higher quality images.
Each set of images taken are viewed by your veterinarian and are then sent off to a board-certified veterinary radiologist for further review and diagnosis.

To maintain good dental health, Hawthorne recommends a dental exam and cleanings under anesthesia yearly. Every dental includes full mouth dental x-rays to help your vet see if there are any underlying issues in your pet’s mouth.
This painless and noninvasive procedure uses a cold laser to stimulate cell growth in order to promote faster healing and alleviate pain.
Some of our most common uses of the cold laser is for arthritic patients, patients that have open wounds, and patients that have just come out of a surgery, such as a CCL repair, due to its ability to reduce inflammation and improve mobility.
Your HAH vet will come up with a therapy plan specific to your pet’s needs. This includes the number of sessions, the length of each session, which laser setting is the best match for your pet’s condition, and more.
Hawthorne offers chemotherpay services which are used to control some types of cancer in pets and can be used as a sole form of treatment, or in addition to other types of treatments such as surgery or radiation therapy. Chemotherapy is administered at Hawthorne orally (pills) and intravenously. The most common cancers we treat with chemotherapy are: lymphoma, bladder cancers, mammary (breast) cancer, and melanomas. When a pet is referred to Hawthorne by your regular veterinarian, the team at Hawthorne works with your veterinarian to develop a plan for treatment, so that you know what to expect throughout the process.
Every pet is unique, and so are their medical needs! Estimates are made based on each patient’s specific treatment plan. At Hawthorne, we will do our best to work with you to help develop a treatment plan that works with your budget. Please call for a detailed estimate.
